NATURE’S PIC OF THE WEEK! – Helleborus x hybridus ‘Double Red

G’day everyone,

Here is ‘Nature’s Pic of the Week’!

My Helleborus x hybridus ‘Double Red’ is in full flower, and it is the first time that it has flourished in the garden.

I planted my hellebore over 12 months ago and it has tripled in size! This variety has beautiful burgundy/reddish coloured flowers that emerge in late winter to mid spring.  They grow best in a shaded position that is protected from the hot summer sun, but they do not like dense shade. An ideal position would be under deciduous trees and shrubs. They can struggle in sandy soils, so if your soil type is sandy mix in a few bags of compost to help rejuvenate the soil.
